Privacy Policy

This policy describes information gathered when you visit Hawaii Court Docket, the ways it is used, and the cases in which it may be shared. By browsing the site or using its search tools, you agree to the practices below.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

If you enter a name or case number into a search tool, the information is sent to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and sends back its results. Hawaii Court Docket does not keep a log of the search terms entered through those tools.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us is retained so we can respond. We keep the message within our team and share it outside the organization only when the law requires us to do so.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, our systems may record technical details tied to the visit, such as:

  • The time and date of each page view
  • Your browser and its version
  • The pages opened and the time spent on them
  • The referring website, when one is provided
  • The device type and operating system
  • Your device's IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Small cookie files on your device help show how people use the site, including which pages draw visits and where browsing tends to stop. Analytics providers combine traffic details into overall reports. You can block cookies in your browser settings, though some site features may work differently afterward.

What We Do With This Data

  • Reviewing which pages visitors use and where changes may help
  • Maintaining site performance and availability
  • Displaying advertising that may be relevant to a visitor
  • Forwarding a query to the selected search partner
  • Finding and correcting technical problems

No Court-Record Data on File

Hawaii Court Docket does not keep, build, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case files. It offers general information about eCourt Kōkua and the Hawaiʻi State Judiciary offices that maintain case records; state-court files do not belong to separate county-elected clerks. The Hawaiʻi Court Records Rules (HCRR) govern access to court case records, while the Uniform Information Practices Act (UIPA), HRS chapter 92F, applies to covered government records and excludes nonadministrative court functions. Visitor information collected under this policy is not assembled into consumer reports or records about other people, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. A query submitted there is handled under that provider's privacy policy and data practices. We do not decide how a partner retains or shares its information, so review the partner's terms before sending it a search.

Links to Other Websites

Hawaii Court Docket links to Judiciary pages, court resources, county destination sites, and outside search services. Following a link takes you to another operator, whose privacy policy then applies. Check that policy before sharing personal details.

Some advertising partners may use their own systems to follow browsing across different websites and select ads. We do not run that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Information may be shared with or processed by:

  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under valid legal process
  • Ad services that place advertising on the pages
  • Providers that measure traffic and site performance
  • Search companies that receive queries entered in their tools

How We Protect Your Data

We use standard safeguards to protect information collected through the site. No online service can guarantee that a breach will never occur, but we take reasonable steps to keep the data secure.

Users Under 18

This site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If you believe a minor has sent us data, contact us and we will remove it promptly.

Your Data Rights

Hawaii's Uniform Information Practices Act (UIPA), HRS chapter 92F, concerns access to covered public-agency records and excludes the courts' nonadministrative functions. It does not make this private website a government records custodian. Under this site's policy, you may:

  • Ask to see information held about you
  • Request that inaccurate details be corrected
  • Ask that information be deleted
  • Choose not to take part in certain data uses

Updates to This Policy

We may revise this policy. Any new version will be posted here with its effective date, so return to this section if you want to review how site information is handled.
